When considering how often should you post on your blog the importance will vary depending on the purpose of your website, how important it is for you to become an authority in your industry and the amount of organic traffic you would like to generate for your website.”

WHAT IS A BLOG POST?

Blog posts are pages on your website published to educate your target audience on subjects related to your business. HubSpot defines blog posts as “any article, news piece or guide that’s published in the blog section of a website.”

Blog posts differ from primary pages and landing pages of your website, as they are not primarily focused on your products and service offerings. The objective of a blog is to inform and educate your target audience.

Another key aspect of blog posting is to gain authority within an industry, by creating strong content that educates people directly and answers the questions people have within a specific industry, you position yourself as a spokesperson and authority in the space.

HOW MANY BLOG POSTS PER WEEK FOR RANKING?

One of the primary motives to blog post is to improve keyword rankings in the search engines for your website, this is to increase the visibility and organic traffic your website will receive which will also increase the domain authority of your website.

When you publish well structured blog posts that are search engine optimised you will get indexed on Google and search engines for content. Once a blog post is indexed it will receive a position in the search engine results pages SERP’s. The aim is to get indexed and acquire a high position within those search engine results pages to attract organic traffic.

To accomplish this, you will need to rank in the top 10 to be on page 1 of the SERP’s. It is detrimental to get in the top 10 as this is where over 90% of all organic traffic will click. The top 3 positions of the SERPS receive over 75% of the organic traffic so ideally you need to be aiming for a top spot to acquire a significant proportion of organic traffic that a given keyword may generate.

If we use the example of a solicitor trying to rank for a keyword such as “can you pay solicitors fees in instalments”, we can see above this keyword gets approximately 110 searches per month organically and has a keyword difficulty of 12% meaning we have a chance to compete for this keyword in the SERP’s.

We know that the first organic position in Google will receive around 32% of the clicks, so this would mean if we can acquire a 1st position for this specific keyword, we are likely to generate around 35 organic visitors every month to our blog post on “can you pay solicitors fees in instalments.” So how often should you blog for SEO?

Well, ranking in Google is competitive, when considering how many blog posts are published per day there is no shortage of educational content indexed on the world wide web. There is said to be around 4.4 million blog posts each day. This means you need to create more user friendly and better structured blogs than your competition. This will require laser focused targeting of keywords and on-page optimisation.

How often should you blog for your business? Well, if you’re looking to establish consistent rankings, we would recommend a minimum of one blog post per week. When it comes to ranking it’s much more about the quality of the content and how well your content satisfies the search intent for any given keyword. However, quantity is important as the more you produce the more pages you will index and the higher chance you have of ranking in SERP’s.

HOW LONG SHOULD A BLOG POST BE 2022?

An important consideration is how long should a blog post be 2022 to optimise rankings and indexing. It is said as a rule of thumb that 2,000 words is a solid volume of words for your blog post, HubSpot states that blog posts range from around 600 to 2,000 words.

Setting a target of 2,000 words per blog post will prevent you from publishing thin content that will not get rankings. Your content needs to comprehensively cover the topic and ensure keywords are targeted. This means throughout the blog post the keyword should be seen in headers and throughout the body of text, this is known as keyword density.

Alongside the keyword being implemented throughout the blog post there should also be LSI keywords and complimentary keywords that are related in terms of search intent and variations of the primary keyword. This will optimise your chances of ranking in the search engines and optimise the amount of organic traffic you generate from the blog post.

Alongside word count it is also important to consider the use of images, video, graphics and ensure your blog post is user friendly. The volume of words is also subordinate to the quality of copy, we have recently written a post on the trident model, which is a guide to ensure your written copy is optimised.

It is important to break down your blog post into digestible content, this will mean using H1, H2 & H3 headers appropriately and making sure that content is spaced out thoughtfully to encourage reading and not intimidate the user with blocks of text, the use of images, graphics and video will also assist with this process.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU POST ON A BLOG?

When it comes to the frequency of blog posting, it will all come down to the context of your time. Many experts suggest that blog posting 2-4 times per week is optimal, which is certainly a great way to get started, but again the optimal number of blogs you should publish for your business will very much depend on the context of your business.

Another consideration is that once a blog has been posted to your website don’t think of this as a done and dusted task. One of the biggest mistakes that content creators make is not revisiting and improving on past blog posts to push their rankings in the SERP’s.

How often should you update your blog? Well, it isn’t necessarily something you need to visit daily, and some content will index faster than other depending on how well keywords have been targeted and how competitive the keywords are, but if a page simply isn’t ranking well after indexing it will need revisiting and improving to acquire higher rankings.

One recommendation we would make is to go back and add some more content, this could mean embedding a video of the topic into the post, adding images, or simply adding more text whilst increasing the density of keywords throughout the copy. We have seen time and time again from simply revisiting a page and improving the content the page begins to rank on the 1st page of Google.
